Child and Youth Care: Foundations Course

The Alaska Afterschool Network is partnering with the Academy for Competent Youth Work to provide the Child and Youth Care (CYC) credential training for FREE to licensed school-age childcare providers.

The Child & Youth Care: Foundations course introduces practitioners to basic concepts and skills in professional child and youth work. The course provides knowledge and skills important to employment in any youth work profession including afterschool, early childhood, K-12 education, foster parenting, residential care, mental health, transitional living, recreation, juvenile justice, and community youth services.

Intended Audience: Educators at licensed school-age child care facilities with 2 or more years of work experience with children and youth. 

Course Expectations: Participants must be able to complete prework, in-between class activities, attend all 3 weeks of in-person training sessions, and complete the certification exam and credentialing process.

Week 1:

  • January 14-17 (Tue-Fri) 9:00am-1:00pm

Week 2: 

  • January 28-31 (Tue-Fri) 9:00am - 1:00pm

Week 3: 

  • February 11-14 (Tue-Fri) 9:00am - 1:00pm

Certification Exam:
Participants will need to register for a three-hour testing block during one of the scheduled testing days.

  • February 18, 2025, 10:00am - 1:30pm OR February 19, 2025, 10:00am - 1:30pm
