Welcome Taylor Pierre, our AmeriCorps VISTA - Communications

As written by Taylor:

Hello, my name is Taylor Pierre. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. My parents have always instilled in me the importance of serving my community. I graduated with honors from Bartlett High School and was a University of Alaska Scholar. In 2022, I graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media, Audio Technology, and Music Therapy. I am passionate about public service; especially working with families and children where I help foster individual growth. My experience in supporting families and children began in high school when I volunteered at the annual "Thanksgiving Blessing" and the Food Bank of Alaska where I packed and delivered food to families in need. During college, I worked at The Children's Lunchbox where we fed hungry at-risk children in the Anchorage area. This provided the poorest families and children in our community with meals that met their daily nutritional needs.

My professional experience includes broadcast news, content creation, storytelling, digital media production, video editing, and multimedia journalism. After college, I worked as a Photojournalist at KTUU where I kept the public informed and shared uplifting stories such as “The Mountain View Kids Literacy Festival”. I will use these skills for the betterment of our community.

I am excited to work for Alaska Afterschool Network because I would be a part of a dedicated team improving the lives of children in our community by keeping them safe while enriching them academically and socially. I enjoy supporting children and their dreams. In my AmeriCorps VISTA Communications position, I will be giving back to the Alaskan community that has shaped me.
